Dynamic analysis of traction motor in a locomotive considering surface waviness on races of a motor bearing

The traction motor is the power source of the locomotive. If the surface waviness occurs on the races of the motor bearing, it will cause abnormal vibration and noise, accelerate fatigue and wear, and seriously affect the stability and safety of the traction power transmission. In this paper, an excitation model coupling the time-varying displacement and contact stiffness excitations is adopted to investigate the effect of the surface waviness of the motor bearing on the traction motor under the excitation from the locomotive-track coupled system. The detailed mechanical power transmission path and the internal/external excitations (e.g., wheel–rail interaction, gear mesh, and internal interactions of the rolling bearing) of the locomotive are comprehensively considered to provide accurate dynamic loads for the traction motor. Effects of the wavenumber and amplitude of the surface waviness on the traction motor and its neighbor components of the locomotive are investigated. The results indicate that controlling the amplitude of the waviness and avoiding the wavenumber being an integer multiple of the number of the rollers are helpful for reducing the abnormal vibration and noise of the traction motor.

Superior Low-Temperature Reversible Adhesion Based on Bio-Inspired Microfibrillar Adhesives Fabricated by Phenyl Containing Polydimethylsiloxane Elastomers

Gecko-inspired microfibrillar adhesives have achieved great progress in microstructure design and adhesion improvement over the past two decades. Space applications nowadays show great interest in this material for the characteristics of reversible adhesion and universal van der Waals interactions. However, the impact of harsh environment of space on the performance of microfibrillar adhesives, especially the extreme low temperature, is rarely addressed. Herein, microfibrillar adhesives fabricated by phenyl containing polydimethylsiloxane (p-PDMS) elastomers with superior low-temperature reversible adhesion is proposed. p-PDMS elastomers are synthesized through one-pot anionic ring-opening copolymerization, and the resulting elastomers become non-crystallizable with excellent low-temperature elasticity. Low-temperature adhesion tests demonstrate that the adhesion strength of microfibrillar adhesives fabricated by p-PDMS elastomers can be well maintained to as low as −120 °C. In contrast, the adhesion strength of pure PDMS microfibrillar adhesive reduces more than 50% below its crystallization temperature. The low-temperature cyclic adhesion tests further demonstrate that p-PDMS microfibrillar adhesives exhibit superior reversible adhesion compared to that of PDMS microfibrillar adhesives, owing to the sustainable conformal contact and even distribution of loads over repeated cycles. This study provides a new fabrication strategy for microfibrillar adhesives, and is beneficial for the practical application of microfibrillar adhesives.     

Patterns in environmental priorities revealed through government open data portals

The ways in which environmental priorities are framed are varied and influenced by political forces. One technological advance--the proliferation of government open data portals (ODPs)--has the potential to improve governance through facilitating access to data. Yet it is also known that the data hosted on ODPs may simply reflect the goals and interests of multiple levels of political power. In this article, I use traditional statistical correlation and regression techniques along with newer natural language processing and machine learning algorithms to analyze the corpus of datasets hosted on government ODPs (total: 49,066) to extract patterns that relate scales of governance and political liberalism/conservatism to the priorities and meaning attached to environmental issues. I find that state-level and municipal-level ODPs host different categories of environmental datasets, with municipal-level ODPs generally hosting more datasets pertaining to services and amenities and state-level ODPs hosting more datasets pertaining to resource protection and extraction. Stronger trends were observed for the influences of political conservatism/liberalism among state-level ODPs than for municipal-level ODPs.

超高压处理对牦牛肉贮藏性能的影响

牦牛肉分别经200、400、600 MPa超高压处理480 s，测定4°C条件下贮藏0、4、8、12、16 d后感官、pH、微生物、色泽、蛋白质与脂质氧化情况，以探讨超高压处理对牦牛肉贮藏期内品质的影响。结果表明：超高压处理可以显著降低贮藏期内牦牛肉的菌落总数、总挥发性盐基氮含量（total volatile basic nitrogen, TVB-N）(P<0.05)，延长保质期，且经贮藏4～8 d后能良好保持牦牛肉的感官品质。经超高压处理后牦牛肉L*值、b*值显著增大（P<0.05）,a*值在400 MPa时显著增大（P<0.05）并在贮藏期内维持在最高水平，且400 MPa组各类肌红蛋白（Myoglobin, Mb）含量也表现出良好的肉色稳定性，但a*值在其他压力处理后显著减小（P<0.05）。但经超高压处理后牦牛肉肌原纤维蛋白（Myofibrillar Protein, MP）羰基含量与表面疏水性增高、巯基含量降低，TBARS值升高。Pearson相关性分析结果也表示超高压处理后牦牛肉品质的变化与压力、蛋白质氧化、脂质氧化和微生物相关（P<0.05...     

Superior hydrogen evolution electrocatalysis enabled by CoP nanowire array on graphite felt

Renewable electricity-powered hydrogen production is an attractive alternative to unsustainable industrial processes, but the large-scale implantation of such sustainable technology still requires efficient and noble-metal-free electrocatalysts for driving cathodic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), especially under alkaline conditions. In this paper, CoP nanowire array was in-situ developed on porous graphite felt (CoP/GF) as a new 3D electrocatalyst in facilitating hydrogen evolution electrocatalysis. This CoP/GF presents outstanding HER activity, requiring a low overpotential of 130 mV to deliver a current density of 20 mA cm^?2 as tested in 1.0 M KOH. Furthermore, this free-standing catalyst exhibits impressive long-term durability of up to 50 h under working conditions.
